The Lawrenceville School
Class of ’74 50th Reunion

Alumni Reunion Weekend

Dear Classmates

In the midst of all we have going on in our lives, I do hope that you occasionally find yourself thinking back to the early 70’s and revisiting memories of our time together at Lawrenceville. Like it or not, good times or challenging, we all were in school with some incredible people, now lifelong friends. We had a campus with incredible resources, and we were trying to figure out who we were and what to do with our lives – an interesting time for sure.

As Class President, I have an important responsibility – to lead our class on to its next major Lawrenceville milestone – our 50th Reunion – yes 50th (Spring 2024.) The 50th Reunion is arguably the most important milestone a class celebrates together. It is a complex effort, led by several class leaders not only in the reunion year itself but in the years leading up to it as well. I, along with David Ballard, Stewart Dansby, Marty Nevitt, Tom Scardino and our Lawrenceville liaison, Maureen Ehret, have begun the process of forming a reunion committee for our 50th. I hope that you will reflect fondly on your time at Lawrenceville and consider joining us.

In anticipation of our Reunion, we have been busily planning two pre-50th reunion class gatherings:

Tobia, Italy, Monday, May 29 – Thursday, June 1, 2023. David Ballard, Stewart Dansby, Marty Nevitt and Tom Scardino will host this gathering at David’s home in Tobia, Italy. Our time there will include some hikes, day trips and group outings for lunch and dinner in the area. Feel free to email David directly about your interest in attending the Tobia gathering.

Keystone, CO, July 17 – 20, 2023. David Ballard, Alan D’Andrea and Marty Nevitt will host this gathering at both Marty’s and David’s homes in Keystone. Just as in Italy, our time there will include some hikes, day trips and group outings for lunch and dinner in the area. Feel free to email Marty directly about your interest in attending the Keystone gathering.

Ellijay, GA, December 2, 2023. Holly and Tom Scardino host a BBQ at their mountain cabin in Ellijay, Georgia from Noon to 4 p.m.

If you would like to host an event or join the 50th reunion committee, please contact us.

Our 50th reunion planning provides an opportunity for us to renew old friendships, share our experiences post Lawrenceville and develop new Lawrenceville connections. I hope you will join us as we build momentum for our 50th!

 Go Big Red! Regards,

Alan D’Andrea

Tobia, Italy

Monday, May 29 – Thursday June 1, 2023

Welcome to Tobia, Italy

David Ballard and his wife Michela Caruso generously hosted our gathering at their home in the charming village of Tobia, set in Lazio bordering Tuscany.

David led us on a walking tour of ancient Viterbo and its 17th century Romanesque cathedral. We enjoyed delicious lunches at Lake Bolsena and at the working winery Vitalonga https://vitalonga.it where we bought cases of wine to ship back home.

He took your scribe Tom for a long hike in the hilly Lazio countryside, among the beech trees in the Monte Fogliano forest just south of Viterbo, to the hermitage cave of San Girolamo, dug by hand in the sixteenth century into a spur of lava rock.

Dinners out were as delicious as you’d expect anywhere in Italy, with locally sourced wines, meats and cheese.

We ended our time together with a grand finale gourmet dinner prepared by David and Michela under the couple’s pergola looking westward over the distant Tuscan countryside.

Thank you Michela and David!

Keystone, Colorado

Monday, July 17 – Thursday, July 20, 2023

Welcome to Keystone, Colorado

Marty Nevitt hosted this gathering at his home high in the Rocky Mountains of Keystone, where the nearby summit elevation reaches 12,408 feet. Marty led the group on a hike to Loveland Pass, a point along the continental divide which forms the watersheds directing rainwater flow to the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans.

Ellijay, Georgia

December 2, 2023

Welcome to Ellijay, Georgia

Holly and Tom Scardino will host this gathering at their mountain cabin in Ellijay. Heritage apple orchards make the town known as Georgia’s Apple Capital. Settled in the 1830s, it was a remote area until the arrival of the Marietta and Northern Georgia Railroad brought in the timber industry.
